McLaren Racing has chosen Tezos, one of the world’s most sophisticated blockchains, as the team’s Official Blockchain Partner as part of a new multi-year technical relationship spanning Formula 1, INDYCAR, and esports.
The Formula One racing team based in the United Kingdom has a long and illustrious racing history and are the second oldest current team behind Ferrari. McLaren has almost 4000 workers as of 2018, and Mumtalakat Holding Company, a sovereign wealth fund located in Bahrain, owns 62.55 percent of the McLaren Group.
McLaren announced in a press release, ‘McLaren will create a dedicated platform that brings its historic racing legacy and famous driver line-ups across its numerous teams to deliver an unparalleled NFT fan experience.’
The Tezos brand will be featured across the McLaren Formula 1 and Arrow McLaren SP teams as part of the deal, including on the race suits of McLaren F1 drivers Lando Norris and Daniel Riccardo, as well as AMSP drivers Pato O’Ward and Felix Rosenqvist.
The fact that Tezos is one of the most energy-efficient blockchains appears to have played a role in the cooperation, as stated: ‘Sustainability via innovation is essential for Tezos and McLaren. Adopting clean NFTs and energy-efficient networks guarantees that the effect of this new medium for sharing creativity is not diluted by excessively high energy usage.’
