Runtown’s ‘Mad Over You’ is most played song in Nigerian for 9 weeks running and its amazing. Just this morning we put up an article here on steadygettingit.com titled ‘4 New Nigerian Songs To Say I Love You‘. If you have not read it, I suggest you take time out to check it out, then come back to continue reading this.
The article discusses four songs by four different Nigerian artists. Songs anyone can share with someone special to make a point. There is a survey at the end of the article to get your feedback on which of the songs you like the most.
I am glad we did that. Why? when the song dropped in 2016, I told some folks that it would go on to be the number song in Nigeria all through the first quarter of 2017.
A few doubted but many agreed. Our little survey adds more momentum to the believe that Runtown has the number song of 2017 even though it was released in 2016. As in, if this song does not win an award this year, we would probably shut down operations.
Since its release, its been radio play, downloads, TV air plays all over the country. To the point where a lot of music fans perceive Runtown’s ‘Mad Over You’ as the song that checked Tekno’s ‘Diana’ or the song that almost got fans wondering if it would ever be replaced on number one spot for a long time, ‘Pana’.
A number of artists have released songs within the period ‘Pana’ was national anthem but no other song broke out as strong as Runtown’s ‘Mad Over You’ since ‘Pana’.
That said, in the article titled ‘4 New Nigerian Songs To Say I Love You‘ we asked which song was favorite and the response as seen below in less than 12 hours indicated that a lot of people still see Runtown’s ‘Mad Over You’ as a number one song with about 52.38% of respondents saying they liked the song the most.
Playdatacharts points out that the song has been the most played song in Nigeria for 6 weeks running as at the first week of February, 2017.
2 weeks more and 9 weeks on, Mad Over You is still the most played song in Nigeria. See Playdatacharts‘s latest chart below.
Africancharts, is a music intelligence company with focus on providing music analytics, statistics and insights on the African music industry.
Runtown is also on top this week on Africancharts‘s Top 50 Songs out of Nigeria based on popularity, factoring in TV and radio plays, records sales (both digital and physical), streams, track (song) and video downloads from top Nigerian entertainment websites, media appearances, as well as YouTube and Dailymotion views.
Earlier this year the musician was also featured on Billboard’s Twitter Top Tracks chart along side Wizkid; who was on his second appearance on the chart. Tekno had appeared earlier on Billboard’s list as one of the ten hiphop/R&B artists to watch in 2017.
However, this is Runtown’s moment and he is definitely having a good run. If he continues like this, its no doubt he would continue to be relevant in the industry for many years to come. We are already seeing a continuation of the run with his latest feature on Sarkodie’s ‘Pain Killer’.
Mr P of Psquare – For My Head
If you have heard the song already, I would like to know what you think. I must commend Mr P for doing a quick one with this Single. It’s never easy keeping up with the business with all the personal and family business out in the open. With this comes fans taking sides on matters they tend not to know much about.
Holding it together to continue working on the music is a big deal. Much respect to the man. Yet, I do believe he can do a lot better. Both brothers have come a long way and do not have to impress or prove anything to anyone. They can both choose to retire right now and would have made a mark in the music industry.
This song ‘For My Head’ has a lot of what we have been hearing from musicians over and over again. There is nothing in this song that makes me want to listen to it more than one time. From I go die for you, to I go cry for you. Banana, plantain or orange peeling for you. Okay, ignore the sarcasm here – You get the point though, it’s all bants.
Mr P is a very good dancer and holds in own vocally, no doubt there. Even so, you need to get a fine song writer or a group of them. There is nothing wrong with working with songwriters. A lot of international stars work with a lot of songwriters to give us back to back hits.
It would be awesome to see Mr P making more music and not just music. Top notch music that is evergreen and grows on you every time you listen to it. What do you think though? Feel free to leave a comment.
Tiwa Savage’s MA LO Visual Comes Out Fresh!
The Mavin’s first lady teamed up with Starboy Wizkid on the 6th track on her EP titled “Sugarcane”.
The afro-pop tune titled, “Ma Lo” has been causing major waves nationwide since it dropped. The lyrics is the usual naija style.
The official video which was released few days ago, can boast of excellent directing and impressive party scenes, with really cool dance moves. The graphics and concept was dished out clean and hot!
“Great audio; disappointing video” has been the issue with most Nigerian songs, but not Ma Lo, this song is a total package.
One that is likely to top charts in Nigeria and possibly Africa.
