Nigeria Super Eagles held a light training session on Saturday ahead of their return leg World Cup Qualifier against the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon on Monday in Yaounde.
Having defeated the Cameroonians 4-0 in Uyo on Friday to remain firmly atop of the group, Saturday’s training was more of a recovery session with injured Odion Ighalo excused from the group in order not to aggravate the hamstring injury he picked up days ago.
However, Ighalo, we understand, will be fit enough to feature in Monday’s game in Yaounde alongside Chelsea loanee, Ola Aina who is now available for selection after FIFA finally cleared him to play for Nigeria, having featured for England youth teams in the past.
One player that will however be absent in the Super Eagles’ team is CSKA Moscow’s Aaron Olanare Samuel who was initially on standby before earning a late call up, and has been granted permission by the team officials to leave camp to attend to urgent personal issues in China after receiving a call.
Super Eagles team and officials will depart Uyo for Yaounde via a chartered flight on Sunday, 3rd of September and arrive back in Abuja on Tuesday, 5th of September after their Monday game.
With Algeria losing to Zambia 3-1 on match day three on Saturday, Nigeria will be one of the first teams to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, should they record any-margin win away to Cameroon on Monday, and Algeria beat or draw with Zambia on match day four.
